Reaching beyond the traditional roles that you've come to expect, the YMCA of Greater Louisville is generating renewed excitement in our mission to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

Belonging.
Being a part of the YMCA will offer a true sense of belonging and involvement.

  • The YMCA will provide opportunities to connect with others who share common interests.
  • By 2008, 200,000 people will identify themselves as members of the YMCA.

Healthy Actions. The YMCA will be a leader in the improvement of health in our community.

  • Anyone committed to improving health will seek the YMCA as the destination for guidance and activity.
  • As a convener and catalyst, the YMCA will develop relationships for a healthier community.
  • The YMCA will take a leadership role in addressing disparities that impact community health.

Youth Development. Through the YMCA, the holistic development of youth will center on Spirit, Mind & Body.

  • 2,000 students will receive support through initiatives designed to improve academic achievement.
  • Developmental assets will serve as the focus in YMCA activities.
  • The YMCA will provide curriculum models to support academic achievement for teens.

Family Support. Families will spend time together at the YMCA.

  • Facilities and programs will encourage activities to meet the needs of families.
  • Program enhancements will expand opportunities for families to be together.

Accessibility. No one will be turned away because of an inability to pay.

  • Membership at the YMCA will be available for all.
  • Development of community and financial resources will expand membership opportunities.

Key to the success of these initiatives is the expansion of our reach to create innovative relationships that will support these five key priorities. We value your input and support.

History
In 1853, the YMCA of Greater Louisville was founded and chartered as a membership organization. The 10th YMCA in the United States, today we have ten convenient branch locations and two extensions throughout the Greater Louisville area. We are also the largest provider of before- and after-school care in the state, celebrate the most extensive Black Achiever's Program in the country and are the proud founder of Safe Place Services, serving as the national headquarters of this outstanding organization.

As a non-profit organization, our involvement in the community is our measure of success. We are proud to have been selected to serve as a YMCA Activate America - Pioneering Healthier Communities association. We are committed to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities and emphasize the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Y-USA among the nation's top charities
The American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP), which helps donors make informed giving decisions, has awarded YMCA of the USA an `A' in its most recent ratings. AIP gave the Armed Services YMCA an `A-' grade. Y-USA is one of only two national human services charities to receive an A grade or better. The Armed Services YMCA is one of just four veterans and military charities to receive an A- grade or better. AIP bases its grades on two factors: 1) how much it costs an organization to raise $100 in public contributions and 2) the percentage of an organization's total expenses spent on services.

Mission
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Promise
No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.
